Touch Screen DisplaysAerosol Jet technology is being used to improve functionality and reduce manufacturing costs for touch screen displays. The ability of Aerosol Jet systems to print 30 micron wide or smaller interconnects can be used to reduce the area required for edge circuits thereby increasing the usable size of the touch screen display. In addition, Aerosol Jet deposition is a promising technology to improve quality and reduce cost of capacitive touch screen displays. Aerosol Jet systems are used to first deposit a base layer dielectric material followed by a printed 10 micron wide conductor to create bridge/jumper circuits on pre-patterned ITO. This Aerosol Jet solution significantly reduces the number of steps and costs associated with current manufacturing methods. Fully Printed Thin Film Transistors Leading research institutes have successfully fabricated all elements of a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) using Aerosol Jet printing technology without involving any photolithography patterning or surface pretreatment steps. The unique multi-material deposition capability of Aerosol Jet technology enabled four distinct materials to be printed into four separate layers to print CNT-TFTs. The resultant device exhibited stable performance over many days of continuous operations while operating at a frequency of over 5 GHz and an on-off ratio of over 100. Aerosol Jet deposition is a promising technology for low cost manufacturing of many emerging printed TFT applications such as flexible displays, RFID tags and more.
