LENS System with Integrated Thermal Imager for Rapid Alloy Development will be Highlighted
Albuquerque, New Mexico, 24 February 2011: Optomec announced today that the Company will showcase its Laser Engineered Net Shaping (LENS) MR-7 System featuring an integrated Stratonics ThermaViz thermal imager at the TMS Annual Meeting and Exhibition in San Diego, California, February 28-March 2 (booth #407). The TMS Meeting draws an extensive technical audience and spotlights the latest developments in the emerging materials and materials characterization areas.
The LENS MR-7 system has been specially designed for the material researcher to rapidly produce novel materials with exceptional quality. It is an ideal system for materials research, rapid alloy discovery, process development, solidification and materials processing research. Key features include the Stratonics ThermaViz non-contact thermal imaging system for measuring temperature and cooling rate; an inert processing chamber; dual powder feeders, and a fiber laser. Also, Dr. James Craig, President of Stratonics, will give a presentation titled “On-Line Imaging Pyrometer for Laser Deposition Processing” on Thursday, March 3. Dr. Craig’s presentation will focus on new developments in monitoring the temperature distribution of the melt pool during LENS processing. The presentation will also explain how the ThermaViz has been successfully integrated into the LENS MR-7 system, and discuss how ThermaViz has been used to measure the critical deposit parameters of peak temperature and cooling rate necessary for controlling metallurgy.
