PARIS, France – September 17, 2014: Optomec today announced that it has signed an agreement with Multistation SAs to be its representative in France for its LENS family of 3D Metal Printers. The versatile printers and print engines are used to cost-effectively repair, rework and manufacture high-performance metal components in materials such as titanium, stainless steel, and super alloys. Multistation has an established track record in supporting advanced manufacturing solutions in key industrial sectors, including automotive, aerospace, railways, energy and defense.
LENS printers use the energy from a high-power laser to build up structures one layer at a time directly from powdered metals. The resulting fully functional metal structures offer excellent mechanical properties, similar to wrought components for many applications.
LENS printers are used throughout the entire product lifecycle for applications ranging from Materials Research to Repair and Rework to Low Volume Manufacturing. Unlike ‘powder-bed” additive manufacturing approaches, the LENS process can add metal onto an existing substrate of almost any 3-Dimensional shape while powder-bed processes require a flat, 2-Dimensional horizontal base. This makes the LENS process uniquely qualified to perform repair operations or to selectively add material in 3D to enhance existing parts produced using conventional manufacturing methods.
LENS technology is also available as a flexible print engine that can be integrated within existing production environments to allow a hybrid manufacturing approach. This open architecture allows it to work in conjunction with known automation systems and machine tools and further reduces costs as well as down time to adopt a new manufacturing approach.
