More then 150 customers in 20 countries. Let’s see what some have to say!
Optomec Additive Manufacturing Systems are at the forefront of important advancements for Advanced Manufacturing in our future. TEC feels that this technology is a must have for institutions focused on creating a highly knowledgeable engineering workforce for the next Industrial Manufacturing Revolution.
Aerosol Jet printing allows for sensors to be embedded within energy devices to monitor temperature, strain, etc. This can provide important feedback during operation of the device. The combination of Aerosol Jet printing with photonic curing will allow us to print and then cure high temperature materials on low temperature substrates such as paper or plastic. We are very excited about the possibilities this will open up in the area of high performance printed electronics.
The Aerosol Jet 200 system is an excellent prototyping and development tool. My research group relies on it essentially every day for our work in printed electronics. It’s easy to use, and it prints just about anything. My students love it!
Re-establishing America’s global competitiveness is dependent upon a new generation of technicians and engineers trained in advanced manufacturing technologies. The LENS 450 system is an excellent tool to conduct basic and applied research, and for training students on industry proven technology for metal Additive Manufacturing.
Although our technical achievement is significant enough to garner an academic award, the work was done with materials and Aerosol Jet equipment that are at production scale. In addition to the cost reduction from avoiding lithography, the fact that the deposition is near room temperature opens the door to many inexpensive and flexible substrates.
LENS is a powerful & proven tool that we are using to provide unique, customized solutions in prototype fabrication and the manufacture, repair, modification, and cladding of metal parts. With this capability, we are leading efforts in hybrid manufacturing, combining the LENS additive process with traditional subtractive 5-axis machining in our Advanced Manufacturing Center to provide cost, quality and schedule benefits that make a competitive difference for our customers.
“Bringing together 3D printing and printed electronic circuitry will be a game changer for design and manufacturing. “It has the potential to completely streamline production by requiring fewer materials and steps to bring a product to market.”
To reduce manufacturing cost and meet high consumer demand, display substrate sizes are increasing which directly increases the number of defects per panel. We selected the Aerosol Jet Print Engine because of its unique fine line printing capability that enables our customers to increase production yields and improve repair quality at a lower repair cost/unit.
Our market research brought us to the conclusion that Optomec is the market leader offering the most mature technology and the best technical and maintenance support. The proven capability to process titanium to aerospace industry standards was also a strong recommendation. The professionalism and openness of the sales staff inspired confidence in Optomec as a company and partner.
Optomec’s patented Aerosol Jet printing system reduces the size of electronic systems by using nano-materials to produce fine feature circuitry, embedded components and miniaturized devices. It offers cost, size and functional advantages, including an ability to produce electronic features that are 10 -100 times smaller than competing methods such as screen-printing, inkjet industrial printing and thick film lithography. These advantages prove to be the key differentiator for Optomec’s Aerosol Jet printing in comparison to competing solutions, such as ink jet and wire bonding, as well as through silicon via (TSV) technology.
The Aerosol Jet system plays a key role in ensuring the digital printing of fine traces of conductor and dielectric materials on flat and 3D surfaces. The system enables our customers to manufacture advanced printed CMOS devices, thermal sensors, and passive components such as RLC filters.
The Aerosol Jet system at Innovation Lab is used to develop new manufacturing processes for a number of different printed electronics applications. Aerosol Jet systems offer the opportunity to deposit fluids that could otherwise mainly be processed using spin coating. The Aerosol Jet system enables us to create structured layers of these fluids rather than full layers.
The ability to fabricate functional electronics into complex-shaped structures using additive manufacturing can allow Unmanned Air Vehicles to be built more quickly, with more customization, potentially closer to the field where they’re needed. All these benefits can lead to efficient, cost-effective fielded vehicles.
We selected the Optomec LENS system thanks to its industry-leading capability in laser additive manufacturing. The combination of the LENS process with the ThermaViz system has provided a significant benefit to our team speeding materials research and development.
